Simple design, beautifully made. A stunningly photographed and illustrated guide to designing and styling the most used and important room in the home. Showcasing the philosophy and fundamentals of deVOL' s iconic values, design principles and now widely recognised kitchen styling, this book is for everyone looking for inspiration for their own kitchen redesign and for all those who love great design, beautiful styling and craftmanship. From total rebuilds to a more modest sink and cupboard upgrade, the photos, archive images and kitchen plans show how to design the space available to create a unique and stylish kitchen whatever the budget. Paul, Helen and Robin encourage you to throw out the conventional rule book, draw your own plans and incorporate fitted and existing free-standing furniture and found objects to create a beautiful unique room that is perfect for your needs. Plus tips and design ideas on how to reorganise or elevate a current kitchen using colour, a single brass fitting, a decorated cupboard, a new light or piece of furniture to effortlessly style up for glamour or down for simplicity. Illustrated throughout with deVOL founder Paul O' Leary' s original hand drawn plans and sketches and details of the Georgian, Victorian and 20th century kitchens, houses and styling that have inspired their four iconic ranges; The Real Shaker, The Classic English, The Sebastian Cox and the Haberdasher' s Kitchens. Alongside stunning photographs and descriptions of many of the individual and unique kitchens they have designed and made over the last 34 years and chapters on the woodwork, ceramic and metal designs and makers written by Robin McClellan and a styling and decorating guide by Helen Parker, deVol' s inspirational Creative Director.
Paul O' Leary (Author) Paul O' Leary co-founded deVOL in 1989 and began specialising in freestanding kitchen furniture. By the late 90s, Paul became the sole proprietor and continued to focus on producing the highest quality cabinetry which reflected deVOL' s affinity with simple Georgian and Victorian furniture. This strong design ethic has attracted clients from around the world to their Cotes Mill, London and New York showrooms and won him numerous kitchen and design awards. Paul has been a regular commentator on kitchen design in magazines and national newspapers, as well as on radio and TV, most recently starring in and helping to create deVOL' s Emmy nominated TV series. Paul will forever be a product designer at heart, solving the simplest and most complex of design problems, always considering style, form, function and comfort. His innovative and unique ideas have been key in designing and developing deVOL' s furniture ranges and ever-expanding collection of accessories. Helen Parker (Author) Helen Parker is deVOL' s Creative Director. Joining in 2004 as a kitchen designer, by 2011 she had become responsible for deVOL' s style, creating one-of-a-kind showrooms, sourcing antiques and gifts and designing new pieces of furniture and accessories. Over the years, she has developed deVOL' s look and voice, styling all their beautiful imagery, writing for their brochures and website, and is often featured in national and international press. Recently, Helen has been busy helping to produce and starring in deVOL' s Emmy nominated TV series. Helen' s passion and desire to create a special look for deVOL has proved to be the making of this company. Robin McLellan (Author) Robin McLellan became Managing Director at deVOL in 2011, after joining the team six years earlier as a placement student. He has been turning and selling wood since the age of ten and has an incredible knowledge of the properties of even quite rare timbers, as well as traditional carpentry techniques. With his impressive skill set, he has been essential in developing deVOL designs and ensuring every cupboard is produced to the highest possible standard. Viewers of deVOL' s TV series were thrilled to glimpse into Robin' s workshop and hear his fascinating thoughts on craft and design. Robin is as ambitious and dedicated as he is talented and trustworthy, and deVOL has truly flourished under his watch.
