Former-US President Donald Trump' s ' deal of the century' constitutes a dangerous turning point for the Palestinian cause and Arab region. What' s Next For Palestine? provides a detailed overview of initiatives seeking to determine the fate of Palestinians, and explains how the latest deal is a fundamental shift in the US position to openly identifying with the agenda of the Israeli far-right. Dr Bishara situates the deal within regional developments, outlining the implications that geopolitical shifts have for the Palestinian cause. He identifies the lessons that must be learnt from mistakes so far, and discusses possible strategies for a renewed Palestinian liberation movement. Azmi Bishara provides an urgent and critical analysis of the deal, laying bare its many fallacies and absurdities. Bishara provides a historical overview of previous negotiations and agreements, with special focus on plans proposed by the US, that have sought to determine the fate of the Palestinians. In doing so, Bishara convincingly debunks the oft-repeated myth that the Arabs have ' never missed a chance to miss a chance' , arguing instead that Israel has persistently rejected any solution to the conflict. Bishara reflects on the strategic mistakes made by the Palestinian liberation movement, drawing on lessons to be learnt, from the birth of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, to the defanged and politically compromised Palestinian Authority that has become a government without a state. Bishara identifies key hurdles faced by the movement today, including the fragmentation of the Palestinian people, and how these might be overcome with locally defined strategies that contribute towards an inclusive national liberation framework.
