Chris Beckett grew up in Ethiopia in the 1960s and studied modern languages at Oxford. In 2001 he won the Poetry London competition. His first Carcanet collection, Ethiopia Boy, was published in 2013, and his translations of contemporary Ethiopian poets have appeared in Modern Poetry in Translation, PN Review, The Missing Slate and Asymptote Journal. He lives in London.
