Gynecology is principally an operative specialty and the range of gynecologic procedures managed is constantly expanding due to improved instrumentation and minimally invasive techniques. The decision to operate, contraindications, alternatives to surgery and preoperative counseling is discussed in detail along with the level of care needed for each case. Readers will improve their knowledge base of gynecologic surgery and gain multiple tools to overcome common surgical obstacles.
Todd R. Jenkins is a Professor and Senior Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology where he is the Division Director of the Division of Women' s Reproductive Healthcare. Lisa Keder is a Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Ohio State University where she is the Division Director of General Obstetrics and Gynecology. Abimbola Famuyide is a Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Rochester, Minnesota and President-Elect of the Society for Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology. Kimberly S. Gecsi is Vice Chair for Clinical Operations and Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. David Chelmow is the Leo J Dunn Professor and Chair at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a past President of the Society for Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Immediate Past President of the Council of University Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and President of the ASCCP
