She remembered reading somewhere, a while back now, about the notion that climate breakdown could be ' cured' by using armies of nanobots to gobble up the vast quantity of carbon pumped into the atmosphere as a result of human excesses. She had laughed it off at the time as a load of neocon guff. A fantasy technofix to keep capitalism in the fast lane, while knocking that pesky global heating on the head. Now, it seemed, someone, some group, some regime, was actually doing it; unilaterally sucking carbon - the principal driver of climate breakdown - out of the atmosphere. For the first time in the history of our world, it was literally raining carbon. Long before it stopped, the guilty would pay, but so would the innocent. . .
