Dina has inherited the Shamer’s Gift from her mother: she can shame even the most hardened wrong-doers, simply by looking into their eyes. But now she discovers a far more terrifying inheritance: her father is a Blackmaster and has the Serpent Gift for lie and illusion. And when he comes to claim his daughter, Dina and her family are catapulted into reckless flight and danger…
'the most original new fiction of this kind ... equally appealing to boys. Here be dragons, sorcery and battles, but Kaaberbol's thrilling and thoughtful series is really about perceiving the limitations and deceits of adulthood.' -- The Times 20050226 The Shamer's Daughter: '[A] fine novel ... The term 'page-turner' is often used but not always justified. It is deserved here, tenfold. I really, really couldn't put the book down.' -- The School Librarian 20050226 'Full of passion' -- The Guardian 20050226 'There is a sense of excitement, sorrow and adventure throughout, and this is a gripping read.' -- School Librarian 20050701
