' Seeking the Light' is the story of climbing New Zealand' s 24 highest mountains, those peaks in the Southern Alps/Ka Tiritiri o te Moana that rise above 3000 metres. Written by Wanaka-based mountain guide and adventure photographer Gavin Lang, the account of each climb is illustrated with his breathtaking, world-class imagery. Inspiring and exhilarating, each individual story captures the tension and drama of mountaineering in Aotearoa, but then is vividly brought to life with Gavin' s outstanding photography. ' Seeking the Light' is a beautiful and original contribution to our mountain literature, a must-read for anyone with a love for wild high places.
Gavin Lang is a mountain guide who has been guiding in the Southern Alps/Ka Tiritiri o te Moana since 2004. He has a particular interest in using mountaineering as a vehicle for self-discovery, helping people develop new skills, perspectives and insights. He has also developed a parallel career as an adventure photographer and videographer, gaining a reputation as one of the finest mountain photographers currently working in New Zealand. His work has been featured in New Zealand Geographic, New Zealand Alpine Journal, The Climber, Wilderness Magazine, Australian Geographic and 1964 magazine. This is his first book. Before his career as a mountain guide, Gavin worked as a travel agent and a professional drummer. He is originally from Ireland, and now lives in Wanaka with his wife and daughter.
