Timothy and Kathy Keller grew up at opposite ends of Pennsylvania, but met in the middle through Kathy' s sister, who was studying at Bucknell University along with Tim. They dimly heard of each other' s doings as leaders of their respective Christian fellowship groups, but it wasn' t until they both attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary that they grew to be friends, then soul mates; they got married at the beginning of their final semester. Tim' s first church was West Hopewell Presbyterian Church, in Virginia, where their three sons were born. After nine years in Hopewell, a degree at Westminster Theological Seminary and a stint as associate professor of preaching there, the Kellers moved to Manhattan in 1989 to start Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
