If you look into the eyes of a rescue dog, you can actually peer deep into their soul. Their soul is filled with stories of a past that can only ever be retold by them. And because of that, you'll never truly know what they went through before you met them. Some have endured horrendous hardship and cruelty, others lived a life of utility in a breeding farm, whilst many dogs' hearts were broken simply due to unforeseen and tragic circumstances. What ever story each of them has to tell, they all have one thing in common; every rescue dog needs a second chance. But are we really a nation of dog lovers? A multi billion dollar a year industry tells us we are spending more on our pets than beer and gym memberships. People are more likely to spend more on their pet than their mother in-law and work colleagues. We are a selfproclaimed nation of dog lovers. But, if we collectively love our dogs as much as we say we do, as family members, comrades and best mates, then why are there thousands of dogs put to sleep each year? This book's approach to dog training focuses on one side of the relationship; the human. It is a human who determines everything in a dog's life. From before the dog is born, to the last breath they take, we are in control of the fate of our beloved canines. With this extraordinary responsibility, we ultimately shape the life of a dog. Their behaviour, emotional state and well-being falls in to our hands. Making the decision to rescue a dog then, is a responsibility often weighted down with extra baggage. The canvas is far from blank, with anxieties and fears carried over from a previous life, a rescue dog can carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, which invariably makes its way on to ours. This is a book that will guide you along a path toward helping you and your rescue dog. You will discover how to build a relationship based on mutual trust and respect, which in practice is a journey filled with just about every emotion available to the human mind. But, equally, it is a journey that is so incredibly uplifting, purposeful and soul nourishing, you will be a better person for it.
