When LAPD Officer Cynthia Decker hears the cries of a newborn infant buried beneath a rubbish heap, she can't fathom who would commit such a wretched crime. But when it becomes apparent that the culprit is a vulnerable young woman, she is determined to find this confused new mother to protect her. It is Cindy's first major case since she was brutally stalked. Her own demons continue to plague her dreams - street dreams cops call them - but she presses on to discover the history behind the abandoned baby. She knows she cannot do it alone. Help comes from the usual source, her father, LAPD Lieutenant Peter Decker, who is preoccupied with his own domestic intrigue, and from a surprising ally, a handsome pediatric nurse. But when events turn deadly, Decker implores his daughter to back off and leave the crime-solving to those more experienced. Ignoring her father's caveats, Cindy charges forward and is thrown into a violent, twisted journey which threatens her fragile, new relationship and endangers her very life. Finally, after an urgent plea for help, Cindy and Decker join forces in the investigation. But the mission's success depends on a cool professional head. With a father-daughter detective team, can it ever be anything other than personal?
