KAREN GAUDETTE BREWER began her writing career as a journalist with the Associated Press in San Francisco, with the Press-Enterprise (Riverside, CA), and with the Seattle Times. Later, she shared the stories of Northwest farmers, purveyors, and artisans as food writer for Seattle icon PCC Natural Markets. As a senior editor at Allrecipes. com, she helped millions of home cooks answer that all-important question- What' s for dinner? Born, raised, and educated among the misty and majestic forests of Washington State, she makes her home with her husband, sportswriter Jerry Brewer; their son, Miles; and their kitten, Georgina. EMILY POOLE was born and raised in the mountain town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. After receiving her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design, she returned west to put down roots in the mossy hills of Oregon. She can be found exploring tidepools and cliffsides, gathering inspiration and making artwork about our fellow species and how to be better neighbors with them.
