The world' s most respected special forces unit, the Special Air Service (SAS), was inspired by another irregular unit, the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) or simply Ghost Patrol. You may now accompany the authors in Ghost Patrol vehicles far, far behind Rommel' s lines. While doing so you will acquire insights into some extreme raids and reconnaissance missions. You will become familiar with tactics and inventions of the Ghost Patrol that are still relevant today. This book is also the story of an LRDG research expedition to modern Egypt undertaken in original WWII Jeeps and described as a "2300-mile Sahara epic" by Classic & Sports Car magazine. Original LRDG training notes and other tips for extreme travellers are included. AUTHORS: Karl-Gunnar Noren has been published in Swedish, English, German and Danish on subjects including history and practical skills, such as blacksmithing. Karl-Gunnar' s latest book is about polar explorers and their special clothing. His love for special skills and details is evident from his many useful tips for explorers. Lars Gyllenhaal is a former tanker and an elected member of the Swedish Military History Commission, and has worked both as an author and journalist. Two of his Swedish books have been translated into English and Polish. Aside from writing and photography, he is sometimes on TV, both behind and in front of cameras. 30 b&w and 31 colour illustrationss, 5 maps
"For those of you with an interest in human endurance as well as military history, this is two for the price of one. "-- "Miniature Wargames" "This book is great. If you want to get a sense of the early days of UK Special Forces, this is an excellent entry point. "-- "Army Rumour Service" "This new hardback from Helion Books on the subject of the LRDG is, in my opinion, a little gem. [. . . ] I thoroughly enjoyed this one"-- "Military Model Scene" A superb summary of the formation and deployment of the LRDG, and their main operations. The book covers that later raids in conjunction with the SAS and the last part of the book covers the exploration of the key sites by enthusiasts and re-enactors. . . A "must have"-- "WarWheels. com"
