If you hear him, it may already be too late. . . The Knock-Knock Man is a devilish fiend who will knock twice at your window and steal your soul if you are foolish enough to look at him. That' s what those living in and around the village of Hanging Twitch believe, but it' s just an old story. Isn' t it? When PC Ali Davenport finds missing teenager Jake Tooley in the woods surrounding the country estate of the Deveraux family, she is shocked by his wild and filthy state. She tells him he is safe and continues to the big house to investigate. She could never have imagined the horrors that awaited her at the house, and by the time she gets back Jake is dead. Traumatised, Ali resigns and her partner, Ernie, takes early retirement. Fifteen months later Ali receives the news that Ernie has died. Suicide. Ali' s not convinced. She knows that Ernie was afraid of heights so the story of him leaping from a fourth floor window just doesn' t smell right and Ali isn' t the only one harbouring suspicions. Ali forms an unlikely partnership with teenage ghost-hunter Will, who is convinced that Ernie' s death is linked to that of Jake Tooley and that the Knock-Knock Man of legend is to blame. As potential witnesses disappear or end up dead, the tables are turned on Ali and it becomes evident that The Knock-Knock Man might not be a myth after all. Anxious that she has now put Will in the same mortal danger she had left Jake Tooley in all those months ago, Ali determines to right the wrongs of her past. Using herself as bait she sets a trap and faces a final, terrifying confrontation with her infamous opponent. ' A sharp, chilling mystery with tremendously engaging characters, written in taut prose with occasional stabs of acerbic wit, this thriller with a dark heart will give fans of Phil Rickman, Peter Laws and Neil Spring a real treat. I loved it and genuinely couldn' t put it down. ' - Stephen Volk;' A beguiling blend of the supernatural and crime fiction that kept me on my toes until the very end. ' - Lucie McKnight Hardy
