The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation: A Collective Legacy is a two-volume book documenting the Rubin Foundation' s art and social justice mission. Conceived as a critical and educational resource for those interested in artistic activism, the book will feature key programs, events, and exhibitions organized and supported by the Foundation, including a selection of grantee accomplishments that have strengthened local communities. The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation:A Collective Legacy is a publication in two volumes, documenting the Rubin Foundation' s art and social justice mission, serving as a critical and educational resource for those interested in artistic activism and philanthropy. The book will feature highlights from the last six years: Grantees whose work facilitates transformative change including Gibney' s therapeutic engagement with survivors of domestic violence, Young New Yorkers work with court-involved youth, and W. A. G. E. ' s advocacy for fair pay to artists); documentation of exhibitions at The 8th Floor like In the Power of Your Care, Enacting Stillness, The Intersectional Self, and the exhibition series Revolutionary Cycles; initiatives like Access Check: Mapping Accessibility 2. 0; discursive texts about philanthropy, critically engaged art, and activist art practices; and several newly commissioned artworks within the publication.
Sara Reisman is a curator, writer, and artistic director of the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation and teaches in the Curatorial Practice Masters Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Anjuli Nanda Diamond is curator of the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation.
