Glass House examines the intrinsic flaws in the set up of the modern Arab states, and then, following a review of each areas history, reviews the challenges, new and old, that the region suffers today. Much has been written on this subject, but Dr Moustafa' s clinical and pragmatic moral assessment comes up with some surprising points that challenge much of this established thinking. * Is it fair to blame the region' s numerous conflicts so heavily on the colonial legacy? *. Is the Arabic language really able to deliver the vision of political union that so many expect from it? * Does the proscriptive nature of some traditional interpretations of Islam impede political reform and encourage authoritarian rule?
Aside from his professional life as a practicing doctor, Dr Wafik Moustafa is a well-known voice of Middle East affairs and makes regular appearances on the BBC, Sky and Al-Jazeera as well as a host of other broadcast media. He has led parliamentary missions to Egypt and other destinations, and is a committed campaigner for a range of causes, from the interests of minority communities through to the importance of secular governance. He is Chairman of the British Arab Network and the Author of Egypt, A Nation in Crisis.
