"A dark, disturbing thrill ride. " -- Publishers Weekly "[. . . ]if there is a crown of queen of gothic horror, [Catherine Cavendish] should be wearing it. " -- Modern Horrors "Cavendish showcases her expertise at creating a creepy atmosphere and facilitating suspension of disbelief. " -- Publisher' s Weekly "Established horror author Cavendish weaves an engaging, multigenerational tale of dark magic and occult dealings in London, both in modern day and during the height of the World War II bombing blitz [. . . ] Dark Observation reads as part occult tale, akin to Rosemary' s Baby, and part feminist World War II novel, like Elizabeth Wein' s Code Name Verity (2012). Readers will enjoy the inventive uses of historical and horror-fantasy plot elements and the great many twists. " -- Booklist

' Catherine Cavendish is a prolific writer of horror. . . I know I' ll be back for more. ' - Frank Michaels Errington, Cemetery Dance' If there is a crown (for the) queen of gothic horror, she should be wearing it. ' - James Lefebure, Modern HorrorsCat first started writing when someone thrust a pencil into her hand. Unfortunately, as she could neither read nor write properly at the time, none of her stories actually made much sense. However as she grew up, they gradually began to take form and, at the tender age of nine or ten, she sold her dolls' house, and various other toys to buy her first typewriter - an Empire Smith Corona. She hasn' t stopped bashing away at the keys ever since, although her keyboard of choice now belongs to her laptop. The need to earn a living led to a varied career in sales, advertising and career guidance but Cat is now the full-time author of a number of supernatural, ghostly, haunted house and Gothic horror novels, novellas and short story collections, including Dark Observation, In Darkness, Shadows Breathe, The Garden of Bewitchment, and The Haunting of Henderson Close - all from Flame Tree Press, and The Darkest Veil, The Malan Witch, the Nemesis of the Gods trilogy (Wrath of the Ancients, Waking the Ancients, Damned by the Ancients), The Devil' s Serenade, Dark Avenging Angel, The Pendle Curse, Saving Grace Devine and Linden Manor. She lives in Southport, England with her longsuffering husband and black cat (who remembers that her species used to be worshipped in ancient Egypt and sees no reason why that practice should not continue). When not slaving over a hot computer, Cat enjoys rambling around stately homes, circles of standing stones and travelling to favourite haunts such as Vienna and Edinburgh. Cat can be found prowling the internet in various locations including: @cat_cavendish on Twitter, @catcavendish on Instagram and at catherinecavendish. com.
