Juliet Batten was born in Inglewood, where she lived until the age of fourteen. Her family then moved to Auckland where she attended university, graduating with a PhD in English. She has taught English, Women's Studies and Environmental Studies at the University of Auckland and was a director of the Queen Elizabeth II National Trust for ten years. As an artist she has held many solo exhibitions and coordinated collaborative art projects. Her published writing reflects a spiritual connection with the land and commitment to creativity, ritual and personal growth through teaching, writing and art. She has meditated practised meditation for twenty-seven years and has run a private psychotherapy practice in Auckland for over twenty years.
