Comforting Melancholy! What do you mean, what does it mean? Just a title? Perhaps you can guess, or maybe you think you know already. Well you could be right; you could be wrong. I implore everyone, this is an aptly named, thoroughly entertaining novel which could very possibly be of the like you have never read before! Take the 1990s, before many things such as the smartphone and social media - a time so different a world so similar. Can you imagine? Perhaps you are too young to remember that time in the past. If older, you probably recall very well back then or could you have forgotten? Why not allow this meticulous seductive narrative to inform or remind you? At least let this progressively evolving dialogue of a particular individual and peculiar engaging story of those past days enrich your life for right now. Love, loss, lust. Comforting Melancholy, it ticks all the boxes. It begins the reflection very ordinarily, where our storyteller turns up for a wholly unsatisfactory shift, then we find this character falling into reverie. Maybe he is anxious at odds with some aspects of everyday life, or just inwardly critical of others who do not fit his ideal. With certain realisation as if hit by a bombshell, his persona is little by little presented differently and he ventures away from a lonely world. Yet while sweetly ticking all boxes, the loneliest, though inspiring, journey begins.
M D Matthews has a background in social sciences and is a semi-retired professional driver. Now with a grown family, he lives and works close to the Lake District, England. These days, countryside is preferred over the clamour or glamour of a city.
