Written by a team of experienced teachers of Spanish, this textbook is designed to lead the adult beginner to a comprehensive knowledge of Spanish, giving balanced attention to the four key language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). It puts language learning into its real-life context, by incorporating authentic materials such as newspaper articles, poems and songs. It contains a learner and a teacher guide and is intended to complement study both inside and outside the classroom, by providing pair and group activities, as well as materials for independent learning. It also includes helpful reference features, such as a guide to grammatical terms, verb tables, vocabulary lists and a pronunciation guide. This extensively updated second edition features extra exercises to support the acquisition of good pronunciation, and is accompanied by a web companion that hosts expansion exercises, activities, solutions and useful links for each unit, as well transcripts, and access to brand new recordings of all the audio examples found in the book.
Consuelo de Andres Martinez was born and bred in Madrid, Spain. As a Senior Lecturer she has shared her passion for languages and learning at the universities of Plymouth, Sheffield,and many Higher Education institutions in the UK and abroad. She is a dedicated and innovative teacher of Spanish, championing digital technologies to enhance learning. She has led the web companion for this second edition. Nadezhda Bonelli initiated the work for this second edition. Originally from Peru, she teaches ab-initio Spanish as an Associate Lecturer at the Open University, UK. She also worked for 25 years at the University of Sheffield, leading developments on the Spanish Beginners' programme through which she consistently worked to promote student engagement and independent learning. Christine Cook moved to Spain in 2004 after teaching Spanish at Sheffield College and Sheffield University for almost 15 years. In Spain, she has been teaching Spanish to non-Spanish residents with a focus on the acquisition of language for everyday communication. She has been responsible for the inclusion of illustrations and icons in this second edition of the book. Anthony Trippett, now retired from the University of Sheffield, has been teaching and examining Spanish language and literature in schools, colleges and universities at all levels for some forty years. He has always taken a special interest in accelerated beginners' courses and the use of authentic written materials in language learning. He was the original initiator of Camino al espanol and has been the administrative coordinator for both editions.
