Anna Sewell was born in Norfolk, England into a devout Quaker family. Her mother, Mary Wright Sewell was a successful author children' s books and was Anna' s primary educator in religious and academic matters. BLACK BEAUTY is Anna' s only published novel, which her mother helped her transcribe during whilst she battled with ill health.
