The sequel to the #1 Bestseller, I Catch Killers In the cops we call it Badness, for the evil that we cannot understand. And yet I have to face it. Over 34 years in the police, I grew used to sitting on one side of the interview room table, facing murderers, child abductors and rapists. Now I have been forced seen what it looks like from the other side, forced out of the police and declared a convicted criminal. Does this mean that I' ve done evil? I' m not convinced, but I need to be certain. To do that, I want to understand what it is that drives people to carry out acts of badness. And whether there is any way back once evil' s been committed. Buiding on the best-selling success of I Catch Killers, in Badness Gary Jubelin sets out to understand them. Talking to leading crooks, cops, forensic psychologists and scientists, as well as the victims, he travels deep inside some of our worst crimes, including serial killings carried out by Ivan Milat and the Granny Killer, the murder of Anita Cobby, the Hoddle Street massacre, Port Arthur and the disappearance of William Tyrrell. This deeply personal investigation leads Gary to confront evil head-on; asking himself where it comes from, how we can prevent it, and whether he himself has ever crossed the line between good and badness.
GARY JUBELIN was Australia' s most celebrated homicide detective, leading investigations into the disappearance of William Tyrrell, the serial killing of three Aboriginal children in Bowraville and the murderer Jeffrey Hillsley, who once described himself as ' Walking Evil' . During his 34- year career, Jubelin also ran the crime scene following the Lindt Cafe siege, investigated the death of Caroline Byrne and recovered the body of Matthew Leveson. He retired as a Detective Chief Inspector of the New South Wales Police. Dan Box is a Walkley Award-winning journalist who has worked for The Australian, as well as London' s The Sunday Times and the BBC.
