G.W. Pabst's 1929 silent classic Pandora's Box (Die Buchse der Pandora), starring Hollywood icon Louise Brooks as the mysterious heroine whose libidinous charms lead to disaster for the men drawn into her web. In her study of the film, Pamela Hutchinson revisits and challenges many assumptions made about it, its lead character and its star. Her study analyses the conflicted relationship between star and director, the film's contexts in Weimar Berlin, and its changing fortunes since its release.
