The Waiting Pig is a sophisticated picture book with a style reminiscent of Edward Gorey. The story follows the tribulations of Morgan the pig as he prepares for greatness. Morgan waits and waits, preparing himself by wearing the right clothes, imbibing the right drinks in just the right way, fervently practicing his autograph..."Morgan knows, as anybody should, that the correct hat is essential wear for one who is waiting for destiny's seductive touch". Just how will Morgan's faith in his impending success be rewarded?
Andrew Conlan studied English Literature at the University of Auckland, where he was admitted to their exclusive Creative Writing program in his third year. Studying under Witi Ihimaera and Albert Wendt, he concentrated mainly on writing for graphic novels and play scripts. As a cartoonist, Conlan's work has appeared in numerous publications, including The New Zealand Herald, Pulp Magazine, New Zealand Musician, his own underground comic book, Strumming Teeth and Pro Design, in which he had a regular cartoon strip critiquing contemporary art and design. Conlan is also an award-winning film director, with his debut feature, The Last Magic Show, playing a season on the Rialto Channel earlier this year. As a performer, he's appeared in indie comedies, as a ring announcer for kickboxing and cagefighting events, and heard on the radio as co-host of the late Pete Sinclair for Love Songs 'Til Midnight. He is currently working on a series of children's illustrated books while developing the script for his next feature film.
