Age range 3 to 6Nobody likes unicorns. . . because everybody loves them! When a llama tries to convince a group of kids why nobody likes unicorns, will it be the llama who learns something in the end? This book is perfect for talking about concepts such as jealousy, accepting differences, comparisons, and being comfortable with yourself. Plus, children will learn fun nonfiction facts about llamas throughout the story and in a special section at the end of the book. This funny, imaginative tale is both engaging and instructive, and is perfect for both llama and unicorn fans everywhere!
"Readers will enjoy the amusing protagonist and whimsical scenes. Through the llama' s experiences, Kilpatrick emphasizes the importance of learning about others and avoiding presumptions. Some moments include informative educational elements, including a diagram of the llama' s anatomical features and a list of "REASONS TO ALSO LOVE LLAMAS. " The children are a diverse group, portrayed with an array of different skin tones. A sometimes-silly but sincere story about respecting differences. " - Kirkus Reviews
Karen Kilpatrick knows her ABCs and likes to tell stories, so she makes up combinations of words on the computer! She also is a mom of three, runs a nonprofit called Authors4Education, is the Marketing Chair on the board of directors for Women in Toys, and created the plush toy brand MeBears. Some of Karen' s other books include When Pencil Met Eraser and When Pencil Met the Markers. German Blanco likes doodling so he draws some caricatures and then puts them on the computer, voila. He is also a graphic designer, a former Creative Director for a global toy company, and a member of the board of directors for Authors4Education. German illustrated the books When Pencil Met Eraser and When Pencil Met the Markers.
