To solve the housing affordability crisis, we need a different approach from the variants and options that have been thrashed around for decades. Our present housing model is linked to many heart-breaking social issues, and contributes to environmental degradation. This book delves into the reasons why housing is so expensive and details a solution to the extractive process that drives people towards housing and mortgage stress. By deflecting the 20% developers profit, the model offers a financial advantage for all involved-an attractive reward that is hoped will assist in the uptake of this new model. The return from a finished eco-village always stays in line with wages, allowing for planned future security. Investors seeking the solidity of real estate, receive efficient ethically controlled profits with none of the costs and responsibilities - they simply act like a bank. The owner-residents within these eco-villages have many cost and social benefits that assist them to thrive rather than survive. The model is ready to roll - form your own syndicate or community under the umbrella entity, or join us in this movement to enhance our lives. In the face of all these changes, the Sun Villages model provides us all with a quality, sustainable and socially responsible path into a difficult and uncertain future on the global scale. " - Andrew Lian, Professor Emeritus, University of Canberra, Australia "House prices in comparison to wages have created a real housing affordability crisis. The Sun Villages model is a great impact and ethical investment, a very real solution to the housing crisis young people face. That' s why I put my money there-to impact a positive change. " - Jason Eldridge, investor "A benchmark for change, it provides residents with a way to live a more affordable and sustainable lifestyle, and going forward we should be drawing on principles developed within the Sun Villages model. " - Luke Feltis, Urban Planning Research Student, UNSW Built Environment Faculty "The Sun Villages model is in line with my philosophy and values on life and the lifecycle. I will enjoy the freedom to be able to travel and leave our apartment under the care of our syndicate. " - Ada Azzam, Sun Villages investor/owner "I believe the demand for this (Sun Villages) model will grow enormously and will be seen in years to come as a leader of a great Australian first. " - Simon Eckermann, Senior Professor of Health Economics at the Australian Health Services Research Institute, Sydney Business School and the University of Wollongong "If you want to invest in property, you would be mad not to absorb what this team has evolved. It' s a genuine game-changer, setting the scene for a new collaborative civil society. " - Elizabeth Jewell Stephens, editor, writing teacher, and founder of LivingNow magazine
Stina Kerans has accumulated life experiences and knowledge that we can all benefit from. Her passion, as outlined in her book, began as a dream in her teens of growing up to do something about what she saw as the plight of older people. She painfully observed the last years of all her beloved great aunts and grandmother (five of them, all childless and very wealthy, bar her grandmother), frustrated by knowing the end years of life could be so much better. Her high-profile as a child TV star of the first travel series saw her living with groups and communities of people right through-out Europe, from a nomadic Lap tribe in Scandinavia, down to a generational farm in Spain. These task centred cultures that produced rich wonderful benefits for all ages left a lasting impression of what a happy life looks like. As a single mother in her 20s, with no income (there were no pensions in the early to mid 1970s), she came to realise our social issues affected all ages, rather than just our elderly. She experienced the absolute lifesaving support a village life offered her as she built her own solar house. She re-married and both her and her partner embraced Permaculture - a way to structure society in a permanent and self-sustaining way-a re-discovery and enhancement of our sustainable past. The two of them have spent the rest of their lives seeking a holistic solution to all of life' s issues they experienced between them. While Garry won national and international awards for the environmental side of their work, Stina founded three principles of social sustainability that she believes to be the precursor to solving personal financial stresses, and many environmental issues faced by our society. They both hope to end their lives in one of these eco-villages!
