Michael Chiles and David Goodwin team up to present a comprehensive guide for all new teachers as they begin their journey, summarising a range of essential techniques. This book will be a key resource for all practitioners training to teach across subjects and phases. Michael and David provide clear guidance on key practical pedagogy techniques including establishing routines, building relationships and difficult conversations, as well as supporting teachers in preparing for their first interview. Each technique, supported by research-based evidence, will be explained and illustrated expertly to become a guide that will support practitioners entering the profession to unlock the complexity of the classroom.
Michael Chiles is an experienced senior leader and principal examiner who has been teaching geography working in the North West. Alongside his daily teaching role, Michael supports teachers and leaders nationally and internationally, as well as writing literature for leading subject publishers. Michael shares his experiences of the classroom and leadership at GeogHod and tweets at @m_chiles. He enjoys walking and exploring the British countryside with his Border Collie, Daisy. His recent books, The CRAFT of Assessment, The Feedback Pendulum and The Sweet Spot, were published by John Catt. David is an assistant principal, a geography teacher in the Lincolnshire region, and a writer and illustrator of education ideas. He is also a specialist leader of education (SLE) and evidence lead education (ELE). His debut book, co-authored with Oliver Caviglioli, was ' Organise Ideas, Thinking by Hand and Extending the Mind' . Through their work together, David and Oliver have set up the brand Organise Ideas and plan to continue to work together on future projects.
