This wraps up the saga: initially by alternating between the recent past and present, then taking the family through the 1990s, ending where it started. You know where the missing girls went: so do they. But what the girls don't know; their faked deaths were uncovered, and for eleven years they made new lives for themselves, although eventually returned to Auckland. The identical twins Tami and Toni did what their grandmother and great aunt did not do - married brothers, and now mix family life with singing and running. Debbie meets a school friend, one whose nomadic life has left her spending nights under Karangahape motorway bridge until Debbie and a family friend Natasha encourage her to accept she is better than that. Ironically it is at Kowhai where she finds a reason to do so. During the course of this final novel the three oldest members pass away, setting the sun on a great saga; where compassion and generosity outshone the family's success.
