Moon over the Manukau commences on an Awhitu valley farm at midnight 1900, with the engagement of Ben and Priscilla, who became pioneer farmers. Ben has two sisters: ill tempered Jane whose life revolves around milking cows, and making butter and cheese, and capricious Alison who falls in and out of love, never to her father's approval. In Auckland Priscilla's sister Emily has married into money, and proceeds to make more of it, yet is generous to a fault. She is only too pleased to show her country cousins the city's social scene. The book concludes at the end of World War 1.

Clark Clark James is a New Zealand author and artist with several novels to his credit. They include the 6-volume, 6-generation historical New Zealand novel Wind From The West, an environmental novel, Earth's Revenge; The Consequence; a novel of what happens when nations dally with chemical weapons, and the soon to be published tale of adventure, loss of memory and gold, The Castaway Hat. Married twice, Clark has 3 adult children and two grandchildren from his first marriage. He is wildly travelled, and includes places he has visited in his novels.
