From one of the leading Maori scholars of his generation and one of our greatest photographers comes this beautifully illustrated work that serves as a fine overview of leadership and challenges for Maori today. After a general introduction to Maori history, Te Ara focuses on the stories of iwi in five regions - Hokianga, Peowhairangi (Bay of Islands) Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland), Waiariki (Rotorua-Taupo) and Murihiku (Otago Southland). This trilingual publication will be of value for general readers, visitors, students of Maori and exhibition goers.
Paul Tapsell is Professor of Maori Studies at the University of Otago, and was formerly Director Maori at the Auckland Museum. His previous books are Pukaki: a comet returns (2000), a Montana Book Award winner, and Ko tawa: Maori treasures of New Zealand (2006), with photos by Krzysztof Pfeiffer. Krzysztof is an internationally renowned photographer who has published more than 20 books around the world. He is photographer at the Auckland Museum.
