When a group of people met in Jean's front room in order to study the Gita each had their own copy of a different translation. Each person would read a verse from their copy in turn and a discussion would follow. Eventually it transpired that no single version completely satisfied the consensus of the group. This book is a result of attempting to obtain that consensus. It is not a translation as such as none of the students are versed in Sanskrit. Occasionally a Sanskrit word would be looked up in the dictionary but basically it is a concordance of translations based on a particular group understanding.
