From the bestselling author of 3 Para, Fighter Boys and Bomber Boys comes a lavishly illustrated chronicle of a defining episode in British history: the epic struggle of the Royal Air Force with the Luftwaffe in the summer of 1940. This is a day-to-day chronicle of the Battle of Britain, 10 July–31 October 1940. Battle of Britain is a compelling, day-by-day account of Britain’s fight for national survival. The progress of the battle is described in an evocative and stylish narrative, amplified by an impressive array of authentic documentary materials and other illustrative features, including contemporary photographs, posters and newspaper headlines, plus aircraft diagrams and maps. Eye-witness accounts, diary extracts and pilot profiles bring the battle’s heroes and victims, triumphs and tragedies unforgettably to life. In Battle of Britain, Patrick Bishop has created a memorable and visually stunning record of one of the decisive moments of 20th-century history.
'Compelling ... a fascinating insight into the emotions and actions of those who took part on both sides ... A worthy memorial to the 'Few' ' Daily Telegraph.
Patrick Bishop has worked as senior correspondent for the Daily Telegraph. He is the author of The Irish Empire; the acclaimed book The Provisional IRA with Eamonn Mallie; the bestselling Fighter Boys; and most recently the best-selling Bomber Boys and 3 Para. He lives in London.
